What is almond flour?
Almond flour is, as the name suggests, a type of flour that is made up of finely ground almonds. It’s a popular flour used in keto, low carb, and grain free diets, and perfect for those who are celiac.
Almond meal VS Almond Flour
Almond meal and almond flour are both derived from almonds, but have a key difference- the skins!
The former is made up of finely ground almonds with their skins intact, whereas almond flour has the skins removed. It’s also commonly referred to as blanched almond flour. Compared to almond meal, almond flour has a lighter color and finer texture and is far more superior to use in baked goods.
Almond Flour Carbs
Everyone’s carbs needs are different, and compared to other flours, almond flour IS low carb.
Per 1/4 cup serving (28 grams), there are just 5 grams of carbs.
Is almond flour healthy?
Everyone’s definition of health is different. Nutritionally speaking, almond flour has a very impressive profile.
Each 1/4 cup serving contains 6 grams of protein and over 6 grams of fiber. As it is based solely on almonds, it also has plenty of healthy fats.
Storing and freezing almond flour
Did you know almond flour is best stored in the refrigerator or freezer? This keeps it fresh while also extending the use by date considerably!
