over easy egg.

Everyone has their favorite way of cooking eggs, but the most delicious and satisfying way to cook them is over easy

If you love a runny yolk and love that something special to dip your toast in, this way is king!

What are over easy eggs?

Over easy eggs refers to how the egg is cooked specifically the yolks. An over easy egg would have cooked egg whites but completely runny yolks.

The eggs are flipped while cooking, but the yolks remain easy even when they are turned over to cook the egg whites, hence called “over easy.”

Ingredients needed

The recipe is very simple, and you’ll only need 4 ingredients. Here is what you’ll need:

  • Eggs
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Butter

How to make over easy eggs?

Making eggs over easy shouldn’t be complicated. Here is how you can cook them perfectly every single time:

Add butter to the pan

Start by adding unsalted butter to a non-stick pan over medium heat and melt before adding eggs.

Cook the eggs

Next, add the eggs, season with kosher salt, and allow the egg whites to cook without flipping. This usually takes around 2 minutes.

When the egg whites are mostly set, flip the eggs with a spatula. You’ll want the whites closest to the yolk to still be a little raw.

Cook for another 30 seconds until the egg whites are completely set.

Season and serve

Now, transfer the eggs to a plate, season with pepper and enjoy immediately.

How to flip this seamlessly

To flip the eggs, wait until the edges of the egg whites become crispy from clear white. Use a spatula, flip the egg and cook the other side for 30 seconds.

Always use a non-stick spatula so that remnants of the egg white won’t stick to it and the egg can be released easily.

Oil or butter for the pan?

While both oil and butter will work, butter is the preferred option.

As butter contains dairy, it doesn’t stick to the eggs easily and is much easier to flip. It also provides a much better flavor.

If you use oil, choose olive or safflower oil.

What is the difference between over easy and sunny side up?

Both styles of eggs have runny yolks but they are cooked differently.

With over easy eggs, we cooked both sides

If you’re making eggs sunny side up, then you cook only one side without flipping.

What pan is best?

Using a non-stick pan to fry eggs guarantees the egg won’t stick to it; it becomes easy to take them out and flip them without breaking.

What spatula is best?

A non-stick spatula is the best, as the risk of them breaking is minimal. The regular metallic spatula, while more durable, are heavier and prone to breaking fragile foods like eggs.
