potsticker sauce.

The best part of appetizers are the sauces you serve with it.

Whether you are eating mozzarella sticks or zucchini fries, they taste even better when dipped into something.

Whenever I whip up a batch of air fryer potstickers, I always make a sauce to go with it.

What sauce goes well with dumplings?

While soy sauce or a drop of sesame oil can satisfy some people, the best sauce to pair with dumplings or potstickers has to hit all senses- sweet, spicy, and salty. Therefore this dipping sauce is truly the best and is SO easy to prepare.

Why you’ll love this recipe-

  • It’s made with just 3 ingredients and takes less than a minute to make.
  • You can change up the flavor and spice level depending on your preferences.
  • It’s so versatile, you can enjoy it with almost anything!

How to make a potsticker sauce

The Ingredients.

  • Chili sauce– Use any chili sauce you like, depending on how hot or how mild you want it. I like choosing a milder flavor, especially if I’m serving it to others.
  • Soy sauce– Tamari or gluten free soy sauce also work.
  • Brown sugar– Just a pinch to balance out the salty and spicy flavors.
  • Sesame oil– Optional, but gives it a lovely sesame flavor.

The Instructions.

Add everything into a small bowl and whisk together. Transfer the sauce into a serving dish and enjoy with fresh potstickers or dumplings.

Flavor variations

While this potsticker sauce tastes incredible, here are some variations to change up the flavor!

  • Omit the sweetness. If you prefer a more umami and spicy sauce, skip the brown sugar completely.
  • Add sesame oil. While most potstickers have sesame oil in their filling, intensify the flavor by adding a drop or two to the sauce.
  • Add chili oil. A more traditional twist, add 1-2 tablespoons of chili oil. Be sure to mix well, so there is little separation.
  • Make it thicker. Add 1/2 teaspoon of cornstarch.
  • Skip the chili. For a simple thin sauce, use a mix of soy sauce, sesame oil, and brown sugar.

Storing and freezing instructions

  • To store: Leftover sauce can be stored in the refrigerator, covered, for up to three days. Be sure to give it a good mix before serving.
  • To freeze: We do not recommend freezing the sauce as it will become gummy once defrosted.
