I have a sneaky way to hog all the good food at restaurants, whenever several dishes are shared.

How?

Douse in it spicy chilli sauce.

The other day, Niki and I caught up for dinner at a new Thai restaurant close by my mum’s place. Thai food is something we can both agree upon when dining out. Whenever it’s just the two of us, we usually order two appetisers and three entrees, with a side of white rice- This occasion was no different.

Between the two of us, we had satay chicken, lemongrass mango salad, cashew chicken stir fry, brown sugar chicken stir fry and garlic tofu. After of appetisers, they brought out our entrees and immediately, I doused it in chilli, forgetting we had asked for it on the side because of Niki’s failure poor chilli tolerance. I looked up and saw Niki glaring at me, as though I just told her which Kardashian had just gained a pound.

Safe to say, I enjoyed a spicy cashew chicken stir fry, a spicy brown sugar chicken stir fry and a spicy garlic tofu.

Niki had plain steamed rice with some random vegetables that didn’t get the chilli hit, along with a random brown sugar clump we found in the stir fry.

We most certainly did a McDonalds run afterwards so she could get French fries with sweet and sour sauce.

Although our spice factor may NOT be on point, the both of us are big fans of wraps which can be stuffed without falling apart. My friends at Flatout have us covered, with all their wraps being perfect for this! I’m a huge fan of their ProteinUP range, as they give an even better protein punch than their other wraps. Niki, on the other hand, loves their original ones…because of their different shape.

Different strokes for different folks.

Because I owed my sister for hogging all the food at our Thai dinner date, I told her I’d make her some quick grab and go lunches for her coming work and school week. I suggested egg salad wraps and she immediately scoffed at the thought, thinking I’d be dousing it in mayonnaise.

Wrong.

While her spice tolerance is limited, she ADORES sweet chilli sauce. By making a few cheeky swaps and adding flavor from spices and chopped veggies, these MAYO FREE egg salad wraps will be Niki’s your new favorite!

This healthy skinny sweet chilli egg salad wraps are an easy and tasty twist to traditional egg salads which are traditionally packed with mayonnaise and hydrogenated oils! Instead of using mayonnaise or miracle whip like alternatives, it uses sweet chilli sauce for some moisture, along with chopped vegetables for added flavor and texture. These quick and easy wraps take minimal prep time and the salad itself is naturally gluten free and paleo, thanks to this delicious sauce (Aussie pride!)

HACK! Because I made these with the intentions of Niki having a batch on hand, they had to be freezer friendly too. These totally fit the bill- Simply individually wrap each one in either greaseproof paper AND aluminium tin foil and the day you want to enjoy, simply thaw out for several hours.

  1. When I met my husband, neither he nor I were terribly into spicy things (beyond Taco Bell Fire sauce, for him). Then one day, I got adventurous. And we started to experiment (not that way, you sick man, that would burn), and now we are both spice fiends. So putting hot sauce on something? doesn’t stop us from sharing, it encourages it!

  2. Love that we both posted egg salad on the same day, lol! Now I need to try yours. Or maybe combine both of ours, yum 🙂

  3. Haha! You are such a good brother, Arman. I love the chili sauce on these wraps! (Although I have to admit that I thought your link might be to Marmite…) We love Flatout wraps around our house, and I have a pack sitting on the kitchen counter right now. I’m thinking this egg salad needs to make an appearance as the filling! 🙂

  4. Yesss to spicy food. Sriracha has a permanent spot in many of my meals. I like the protein up wraps, too!

  5. Nice! I’ve been using flatout’s a lot recently and will be showing up in some of my own recipes. Including the one that will post tomorrow! They are so versatile!

  6. Spicy food for life! But I like sweet chili sauce, too, and I’ve never tried it with eggs so this is happening ASAP.

  7. Arman these salad wraps look really delicious!! Sounds so good for a light & healthy lunch!

  8. You wanna know how to ensure that nobody will touch your food? Douse it in Sriracha. And chili paste. And black pepper. And chili flakes.

  9. you might get me on the skinny recipe train with that 😉

Your strategy wouldn’t get you far if you had dinner with me. Sriracha is a staple. The extra hot one in the big bottle 😉

When I handle fresh chili I always set at least one eye to fire. Sometimes even hours later after washing hands a couple of times. The suff is wicked(ly good)!
